Enzymes are specific, biological catalysts needed for all of the chemical reactions that take place in your body. Research one specific enzyme used in human metabolism and identify the following:
1. Name of the enzyme and its substrate and describe the chemical reaction.
2. Optimal pH and temperature for this enzyme.
3. Identify the reaction as endothermic or exothermic AND catabolic or anabolic.
4. Describe one possible effect on the body if this enzyme was missing or denatured.
Once again, you may not repeat enzymes discussed by other students so please review responses before adding your own. Write your name at the end of your post. You can Skype with your friends later!

Papain is what makes up meat tenderizer. It works in the digestive system to break up specific segments of proteins into smaller amino acids. Its optimal pH level is 6-7 and its temperature is65 °C. It is a endothermic and catabolic reaction. If Papain was missing you would have a surplus of protien.
catalase and its substrate Hydrogen peroxide removes toxic H2O2 from cell. Its optimal pH level is 7.0 and its optimal temperature is 37 C.This reaction is exothermic and a catabolic. If catalase was missing we would die, because there would be nothing to get rid of the toxins in our bodies.
enzyme of saliva is called Ptyalin. its called a salivary amylase and converts starch to maltose.
Its optimal pH & temperature for this enzyme is 5.6- 6.9 & 37 degrees Celsius.
It's a endothermic & catabolic reaction.
If Ptyalin was missing Malocclusion can be lessened alot & would be hard to digest.
lactase and its substrate periplasm are essential in the digestion of milk sugars in the body. it's optimal temperature is48°C, and its optimal pH is 6.5. It is also an enothermic and catabolic reaction. If our bodies did not produce lactase people would become lactose intolerant, which means we would have a hard time digesting milk sugars.

METABOLIC ENZYMES SPEED UP CHEMICAL REACTION WITHIN THE CELLS FOR DETOXIFICATION AND ENERGY PRODUCTION.wITHOUT THEM LIFE WOULD CEASE TO EXIST!!
METABOLIC ENZYMES SPEED UP THE CHEMICAL REACTION WITHIN THE CELLS FOR DETOXIFICATION. wITHOUT THEM LIFE WOULD CEASE TO EXIST!PH IS 6.0-8.0 AND TEMP. IS ABOVE NORMAL HUMAN BODY TEMP.
In the stomach, chief cells release pepsinogen. This zymogen is activated by hydrochloric acid (HCl), which is released from parietal cells in the stomach lining. The hormone gastrin and the vagus nerve trigger the release of both pepsinogen and HCl from the stomach lining when food is ingested.
substrate-proteins
In the stomach, chief cells release pepsinogen (exergonic)
Pepsin functions best in acidic environments and is often found in an acidic environment, particularly those with a pH of 1.5 to 2. Pepsin denatures if the pH is more than 5.0.
Pepsin is said to have an optimum temperature between 37°C and 42°C in humans
caralase is crucial to life. it is found in nearly all living organisms.
the ph is about 7. the temperature varies between species. The reaction of catalase in the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide is--2 H2O2 → 2 H2O + O2. we need it because it helps break down the food in our body.

The enzyme elastase breaks down proteins in the human body. The substrate for elastase is Ovalbumin. Elastase catalyzes the hydrolysis of elastin and turns it into polypeptides and amino acids. Its optimal pH level is about 7.5 and its temperature is 33 degrees celcius. It is a catabolic and exothermic reaction. If elastase was missing from the body then we wouldnt have anything to break down the protein in our body which would cause us to have a surplus of macromolecules.
Enzyme= Gastric Lipase
Substrate= Protein
Chemical reaction=Gastric lipase is an acidic lipase secreted by the gastric chief cells in the fundic mucosa in the stomach.
It has a pH optimum of 3-6
It is an endothermic and catabolic reaction.
You would not be able to digestyour food without this enzyme/
The enzyme Amylase assists in the breakdown of starch into glucose. Starch is Amylase's substrate. The optimal temperature is 60C and the optimal pH is 6.7. The reaction is catabolic and exothermic. Without amylase the body would be unable to digest starches. Their would be no glucose, and we need this as our energy source.

Bromelain breaks down proteins found in plants and animals and is also used as a meat tenderizer as well as papain. It can help the body to fight cancer, improve circulation, and treat inflammation. Its optimal pH level is 6 and its temperature is 45°C. It is an endothermic and catabolic reaction. If bromelain was removed you would have a harder time absorbing the nutrients you get when you eat food.

enzyme - Kinases
substrate- protien
chemical reaction - Glucose -> ATP + Glucose-6-phosphate -> ADP
ph - 4
exothermic & anabolic
it helps your artiers not get clogges
kara ganley
Enzyme-Protease
substrate-protein
pH-3-7
Temperature-25-55 degrees
Rection-endothermic and catabolic
Effect- If this enzyme was missing the body would be less inable to digest the protein in food.

My enzyme is aminotransferase. With to much of this enzyme you are likely to develop liver disease. It has a PH level of 4-5. And its temperature is 50`c. I cant find if its endothermic or exothermic or if its catabolic or anabolic. Sorry.

Nuclease's substrate is nucleic acids. An example of this would be it's function to cleaves the phosphodiester bonds between the nucleotide subunits of nucleic acids. Its pH ranges around 7-8 and temperature of 60 °C. Nuclease is actually both exothermic and endothermic and it's catabolic. If it wasn't for nuclease nucleic acid wouldn't produce nitrogen and simple sugars.
DNA Polymerase is an enzyme that builds DNA strands from deoxyriboneucleotides. It works best in 75 degrees C and its optimum pH level is between 8-9. The reaction is exothermic and anabolic. If DNA Polymerase did not exist, you woundn't either.

Lipase breaks down fat and lipids in the pancreas
pH: 7-8
temperature: 35 degrees Celsius
The substrate is esterase.
The reaction is endothermic and catabolic. They catalyze hydrolosis.
Your body would not be able to digest fats if there were no lipases= high cholesterol, diabetes
Sarah Woode
enzyme - trypsin
substrate- protein
chemical reaction - it breaks down proteins. it is used for numerous biotechnological processes.
ph - 3
exothermic & anabolic
Pepsin enzyme: The substrate is protein. It catlyzes the breakdown of protein molecules in your stomach. Pepsin pH can be from 1.5 to 6 and the temp. can be from 30 to 40 degrees celsius. Pepsin is exothermic. Pepsin is also catabolic. Without this enzyme protein would not be able to be broken down
Enzyme: Maltase
Substrate: Maltose
Maltose is a disaccharide that the enzyme hydrolysis and breaks down.
The optimal pH is 6.5 and the optimum temperature is 48-50 degrees Celsius.
The reaction is endothermic and anabolic.
The muscles would waste away because it helps form healthy muscles.
The heart is what keeps a person alive. it works in the respitory system.
