There are over 200 types of cells in the human body. Choose one specific cell type and give the following information:

1. The organ system it is found in.
2. The specific function(s) the cell performs.
3. One other fact about the cell.

All responses must be unique so please review other responses before submitting your own. Please write your name at the end of your response. Always be sure to check the validity of the website you are using!

White blood cells (leukocytes) are found in the immune system. They defend your body against infectious disease and foriegn materials. Another fact about white blood cells are several different types such as neutrophil, eosinophil, and basophil.

Monocyte is a type of white blood cell, part of the human body's immune system. Monocytes have two main functions in the immune system: (1) replenish resident macrophages and dendritic cells under normal states, and (2) in response to inflammation signals, monocytes can move quickly (approx. 8-12 hours) to sites of infection in the tissues and divide/differentiate into macrophages and dendritic cells to elicit an immune response. Half of them are stored in the spleen. Monocytes are usually identified in stained smears by their large bilobate nucleus.

~Skin Cells~
~Skin Organ- largest organ in the body
~Used as a barrier
~You lose 30,000 to 40,000 skin cells every minute ~You renew them every 28 days

Brain cells
Found in the brain
They communicate, sending signals to tell other parts of the brain and body what to do.
Brain cells are the only type of cells that dont come back after you lose them.

Nerve cells are found in the nervous system. The cells function in the body is that it sends nerve transmitters through out the body
for movement and thoughts. They can be found in your brain and spinal cord.

Hepatocytes cells are found in the liver. cells are involved in protein synthesis, protein storage and transformation of carbohydrates. Hepatocyte nuclei are round with dispersed chromatin and prominent nucleoli.

Egg Cells are found in the female reproductive system. Egg cells aid in the process of sexual reproduction with sperm cells to form a child. In some plants and algae, egg cells are known as oosphere.

Muscle Cells
1. muscular system
2. their function is to produce force and cause motion
3. muscle cells contain contractile filaments that move past each other and change the size of the cell

Reticulocytes are immature red blood cells. They are developed and matured in the red bone marrow. Eventually once the immature red blood cells are grown into regular red blood cells their major function is to carry oxygen to all the tissues from the lungs. The red blood cells than transport the carbon dioxide from the cells because of breaking down the nutrients.
Fact: Red blood cells only live for approximately 120 days.

* Von Ebner's Gland (gustatory glands)
1. Found in the tounge.
2. It washes taste buds.
3. Begins the process of lipid hydrolysis in the mouth as they secret lingual lipase.

Glands of Moll

-Found on the margin of the eyelid.

-Lipid that adds to the superficial layer of the tear film, retarding evaporation.

-The glands of Moll are named after Dutch oculist Jacob Anton Moll

The type of cell i chose was the "osteoclasts". This cell is found in your bone tissue just about every bone in your body. This cell helps remodel old bones as they dizzolve (resorbed) them. Then they make new refirbished bones out of them. They are also called " Osteoblasts ".

T cells
1. found in the blood
2. T cells help the immune system defend against disease.
3. T cells are attacked when the body has HIV or AIDS and once the T cell count is down, the body is unable to defend successfully against disease.
