History of Life on Earth

Choose one event from the timeline of evolution given out in class. Write 4-5 sentences to discuss how life today may be different if that event did not occur.

You cannot get this wrong as long as you support your answer! Be sure to support your choice with 4 -5 complete sentences...really think about this one (How would your life be different? Would humans still be the "dominant" species? Would we even exist???)!!

One event of evolution is when the dinosaurs went extinct. If there were dinasuars when human first was discovered I think human would of adapted to fit the lifestyle. We definitely wouldn't of been the dominating species at first. After a while though we would of had the technology now and we would probably be able to get control of dinasaurs. Like if dinasaurs suddenly became unextinct we would probably still be the dominant species because of the weapons and we would probably just put them in cages.

In the early stages of evolution the early atmosphere was mainly made of CO2, H2O vaopr, Nh4 and CH4. During this time there was no oxygen, until cyanobacteria began to go through photosynthesis. If this bacteria had not existed neither would humans because of lack of oxygen. Also if we did find a way to adapt to the environment we probably wouldn't be the dominant species because others would have evolved by then or adapted better. Another way the world would be changed is that that atmosphere would be completely different, and we might not have the protective ozone layer we have today. Due to that we would not be fully protected from the sun's rays and Earth would still consist of molten rock. Finally plants would not exist becaue there would be no animals the provide oxygen for photosynthesis. If there were no plants nothing would be able to survive since they are the building blocks of the food chain.

One event of the revolution is when the earths continents moved. This is signifigant because if this did not occur many the animals living on earth now would not be here. Which could mean that all of the food chains would be messed up. Another thing that can happen is that we would not be able to grow many of the plants that we do today. Ibelieve that humans may all look alike because we would all be from basicaly the place. We would still be the dominant species.(we win either way)

Without the formation of the sun, life would be extremely different as we know it. The side that was already having night would not then be warming up the next "day". There would be no more days, just one long eternal night.
The surface temperature of Earth would have dropped below that required to sustain unprotected animal, plant and human life within days. It is possible that with insulated buildings powered by our power plants that we could live off of stored food.
However, with all plants and animals dead we would be in a very bad situation within a year.
Therefore, humans would not be the "dominant" species... perhaps we would never exist.

When the Earth existed as Pangaea, the climate and the organisms living there was very differnt. If this change did not occur, it would have interupted the food chain when new organisms came. Also, all humans, animals and plants would have to adapt to different weather conditions. Maybe extinct animals would be not have become extinct if the continents didn't move.

Ice Age was one event from the evolution. Because theoretically, could be major volcanic eruption or a foreign object from space crashed into Earth. Then dust or ash is thrown up into the atmosphere and is so dense that the sun cannot penetrate it. This causes the earth's temperature to cool until legitimately freezes over. If Ice Age didn't happen, the Woolly Mammoths, Saber-Toothed Cats and Cave Lions, etc. wouldn't be extincted. I'm not so sure that humans would be the dominant species if those animals still existed.. Our lives would be different because then scientists would have more animals to study from.

If sexual reproduction didn't appear, many of the organisms would probably be the same. Without sexual reproduction evolution would have been a lot slower. Since sexual reproduction causes offspring that are combinations of both of the parents genes, the chances of a new species appearing increases with each generations. Without sexual reproduction, the only way evolution could have happened is if an organism became mutated by living in an area that is exposed to radiation. Also, sexual reproduction prevents the chance of the species being wiped out. Sexual reproduction causes diversity, which would mean that all of the organisms in that species would be different. So,if a disease ends up killing a majority of a species, the surivors might pass on the resistance against that disease. If sexual reproduction didn't occur, humans might not exist because evolution would take much longer. Also, even if humans somehow existed, we could easily be killed by some kind of disease.

One major event of evolution is when the moon was created. The moon was created when a piece of the crust broke off from earth. If the moon had never broken off from the crust, tidal waves in the ocean would never form. This would cause animals and other inhabitants of the sea not being able to do certain things that they are able to do today. Some things that could be affected are there ability to eat, have shelter and mate.

The big bang theory was the start of our earth's evolution. When it happened our whole universe was created along with our solar system. If the big bang didn't happen, we wouldn't be alive today. Our earth wouldn't be in exsistance.

One event that was crucial to evolution was the beginning of the Protist kingdom. From the Protist kingdom, came the 5 other kingdoms. This gave us the ability to classify different organisms into categories accoring to their features and characteristics. Without these kingdom classifications, I don't think life would be all that different because it would be the same organisms just without the lable. But, on the contrary, it's very helpful to scientists to know what similarities organisms have during further experimenting on a species. It would also be helpful to us humans because we would need to know what type of living things are superior to us. Without the six kingdoms of life, all living things would be scrambled up and put where they do not belong.

One event that occurred was when the first simple multicellular organisms appeared in 1200ma.They were in colonies. Also they had limited complexity. The first multi celled organisms were the basis of humans today.

The big bang!

Without this event, life as we know it would not exist. According to the theory, without this explosion, neither the sun or any planet in or solar system would exist. Maybe eventually life would show up on some other planet and get to or level of intelligence but we have no way of knowing that.

The process of photosynthesis which started about 2.5 billion years ago. Without photosynthesis all animals would not exist at all. This is because with out the oxygen being produced by photosynthesis all animals would either die from lack of oxygen or adapt to anaerobic respiration. If their was no photosynthesis thier would not many species of animals surviving and those that do will be weak and small from doing anaerobic respiration.

One event of evolution is when the DoDo birds went extint.DoDo's would have been very adaptable in our life style if they would have survived. They would have givi us early information of old species. Also Dodo birds are pretty awesome, and can show the traces of the first " bird " families.

One event was when all of the dinosaurs went extinct. This would mean that they would still be around right now. I don't think many of us would be living and if we were we would probably be in good hiding. You would walk outside and there could be a dinosaur down the street. I think that would be pretty scary. We would not be the dominant life species because the carnivores would eat us and the herbivores would most likely eat a lot of the nature around so we might not have as many trees or plants around.

One thing is when dinosaurs went completely extinct. If they were around today still we wouldnt be the more dominiating popualtion, they would be. It would change technology and the way everything and everyone lives. WE need to share some of our space with them now. We would have a hugee food shortage for some animals if they get to eat first, and are much bigger.

life would be different if humans didn't evolv. this is because we wouldn't be here. if we weren't here then the whole food chain would be messed up. also if we weren't here then none of us would be living, there would be no you, or me.

One event is from the Tertiary Period; Mammals abundant on land. If mammals never became abundant, they might have never became humans. Before mammals were abundant, there was a good amount of plants, fish, reptiles etc. In the Quaternary Period, the evolution of humans began. This was .5 million years ago when the First Homo sapiens came into existence.

One event in evolution is when oxyen came into the atmosphere. If it wasn't for there being atmospheric oxygen there would not be humans. We would be simply unadble to breath and an organism that uses photosynthesis would be the dominant species. The earth would probably just be filled with plants and rock. There would be very little, if any, animals.

When a planet came rushing from outer space and crashed into the earth a large piece of rock got caught up in our orbit and now its are moon. The moon helps cwith so much like the earths tides.

One event of evolution is when dinosaurs went extinct. If dinosaurs never went extinct, then our lifestyle would probably be completely different. One, because if we couldn't control the dinosaurs, we would probably be getting eaten, or we might not even exist. But if we were able to control the dinosaurs we could use them in a good way, like eating other animals, or just keeping people/animals safe. If the dinosaurs never went extinct then our lifestyles would definitely be completely different.

One event of evolution is when dinoasaurs became extinct. If dinosaurs were still existent, then they would definitely be the dominant species. Despite our probable knowledge advantage over them, they are much larger and stronger. If they did anything, we wouldn;t be able to easily stop them with out being susceptible. To be honest, our technology would be less advanced as we would spend so many minds planning safety against the dinosaurs.

First Flowering Plants Appear 120 mya
Without flowering plants, pollination would not occur. This would affect the overall population of plants in the world. Also affecting insects, and as plants would not have flowers, fruits and vegetables would not be available. This would be a loss of a food source for insects animals and humans which could further affect the populations of the other species.

One evolution is that of the appearence of land plants 475 million years ago. If this had not happened then we would not have the varities of life that we have today. A lot if not all animals depend on land plants for food. If these plants did not exisit then entire food chains would never be. Without land plants we would not exsist. If we did exsist we would have had to live off of fungi but that is doubtful because they do not have the amount of energy that we get from plants.
