Protein Synthesis Web Actvity

Please read all instructions on this blog before beginning the activity. Most of this assignment's work will be submitted to me on a separate piece of paper (Friday 4/16), but you will also be reqiured to comment on this activity on the blog.

Click on the link for the Univeristy of Utah Learn Genetics Page: http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/begin/dna/

Click on "Transcribe and Translate a Gene" in center box.

Before beginning the activity, read ALL of the information on the page and answer the following questions on a separate piece of paper (answer in COMPLETE sentences):

1. What is a gene? What does each gene encode?
2. How many genes does the human genome contain?
3. How does your cell "read" your genes? What is the outcome of these processes?
4. What is the Universal Genetic Code?

NOW, follow the directions to complete the activity. When you have completed the activity, write the order of amino acids for the protein you created.

On the blog:

What did you think about this activity? Did you find it helpful? Why/why not?

i thought that this was a good activity. i found it very helpful in acually seeing the protein being formed and how we got to find the amino acid.

I did find this activity helpful in having a visual aid to understand the process of transcription and translation. At first iw as a little confused, but after finishing the activity I felt a lot better!

I found this activity very helpful and the visual made it easier to understand. Now I can understand how to transcribe and translate a gene a lot better!

This was a great method to review how to create an Rna strand, for there are reminders appearing as you make mistakes, and learn, rather than typing randomly and then dumbfounded by numerous errors. Furthermore, I also liked seeking the answer to the questions independently because personally, seeing the information and then writing it down helps compound the ideas into my memory.

I thought the activity was very helpful because i was able to see the RNA being made, and how the amino acids correspond. It helped me better understand the process.

I thought that this was a good activity. It was helpful seeing what was happening rather then doing it in your head

I liked it,I thought the activity plainly explained the protein process. Though i thought it was a little confusing at first it became very easy.
